Alison Osborne Scanlan holds a B.A. degree from Emory & Henry College with majors in Political Science and Public Policy. In 2008 she completed her M.A. degree in Applied Sociology at East Tennessee State University. Alison’s areas of interest include Appalachian culture, political economy, and social change. She has previously taught at East Tennessee State University and is currently teaching at Northeast State Community College. .
Alison lives in Bristol, Tennessee with her husband Kyle and young son Hank. Community participation is an important part of Alison’s life. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Bristol Family YMCA and Bristol’s Promise Youth Networking Alliance. Alison also serves as a member of the Bristol, TN Regional Planning Commission. When not teaching or attending meetings, Alison enjoys gardening, swimming and running.
